Stunning Early 18th Century Solid Panelled Oak Coffer With Carved Frieze
Early 18th Century Large Oak Coffer. For sale is this beautiful Large Oak coffer. This Coffer, is lightly carved and displays a lighter patina than some of other coffers. In it's mostly original condition, it measures 140cm in width. It retains all it's original panels, however, the original wire hinges have been replaced with later hinges a long time ago. The lock is present, however there is no key. The frame of the coffer is strong and structurally solid. The lid is solid and opens on replacement hinges to reveal the internal space of the coffer.
The lid has a minor age related split across it, which neither affects the structure nor the aesthetics of the piece. The interior is clean and original and does not have a candle box present, as can be seen in the pictures. These are often missing or removed as they are frequently not made from strong wood in the way the coffer is but rather something more brittle which is damaged over the many centuries of use these coffers endure. As with all our coffers, this has been treated and polished ready for you to use or display in your home. If you have any questions or would like any additional pictures then please do ask.
