Rare 18th Century Georgian Solid Silver Circular Wirework Spice Pomander Box
BEAUTIFUL RARE 18TH CENTURY GEORGIAN SOLID SILVER CIRCULAR WIREWORK-FILIGREE. This is a beautiful Rare 18th century Georgian solid silver circularwire work filigree spice - pomander box, this was crafted circa 1770, making it over 240 years old, this beautiful wirework silver spice box has very pretty circular shape creating such a beautiful appearance, it has been crafted with the most exquisite wirework filigree decoration with an intricate wirework scroll design to the pull off top which is framed with intricate entwined almost chain decoration and the most beautiful scrolls to the body of the spice box, the base is crafted in solid silver, the sides have been finished with scrolls and curves creating the most stunning panel sides in wirework, this would have once contained either spices or pomander and been used to give the lady or gentleman of the 18th century a wonderful perfumed aroma when out on the streets as in these times the odours were not very pleasant. I have tested it and it does test as silver, the quality of the craftsmanship is superb It is so very tactile and once picked up has the most wonderful feel, this will add something very special to any collection, my photos dont do it justice. Lovely, with just surface were to the base ecpected for its age.
That being said it doesnt detract at all from its rare beauty, just mentioned for accuracy.
